Match Report
The memory of wretched, vile October was banished to nothing as the glory of splendid, beautiful November arrived. A win, and a win with style.
Two – nil up with ten minutes played, and suddenly the distant memories of how good we are at throwing away a lead came flooding back. Memories became reality as Bodey hesitated and Ritchie went past him to head home. The early goals, an unerring finish from Rogers and a regulation headed one from Lewis, looked like they might have been the falsest of false dawns. That was even more so as Lewis spurned three great opportunities to put the game out of reach. But, remarkably, panic did not set in. Killen seemed to have found his best position in the centre of midfield and started to run the game from there. Eddie Jones, in his best performance for many months, was a constant threat. The high back line was abandoned without demur. Chester stayed composed and extended the lead to 3-1 just before half-time.
The Crosby Co-Op provided this week’s oranges, and juicy they were too. They were swiftly devoured, and so too were Convocation’s dreams as Lewis crossed (yes, you read it right) for Clay to tap in at the far post and then scored another himself. At 5-1 up, Bagley felt sufficiently confident to enter the fray, leaving himself time to miss but one goal line clearance. But 5-2 at the final whistle seemed a fair reflection of play.
This winning lark isn’t so bad after all, we should try it more often.
