Match Report
“Bitter oranges, perfect for cooking”. It wasn’t that difficult. But just as the political songwriter finds the third album the difficult one, so the Ramblers Captain finds the third season the difficult one. The clash between complacency and trying to make it different flummoxes the best, never mind this one.
Nonetheless, a blindly devoted squad of unfailing quality assembled in an effort to make this season one to remember. Sadly, though, Bodey hadn’t read the script and after a period of dominance, allowed the opposition in for an against the run of play opener. Back with the plan, he crashed home a header from a Clay corner to make the scores level at the break.
“Are you trying to kill us with this f*****g acid?” he asked as the Sevilla Marmalades were passed around and roundly declined. But this strangely galvanised 15 men into a team for whom defeat was not an option. Jimiesta Byrne was introduced and was excellent.
Soon afterwards, Gendall surged through from midfield and, as Bagley set off to retrieve the ball from the Holy Family 2nd XI pitch, he smashed a ferocious shot in to the roof of the net. If anything, the third goal was better, Clay chipping delightfully for Finno to glance a delicate header into the far corner. Convocation fought back and made it 3-2, but Gendall still had his shooting boots on and scored with literally the last kick off the game to restore the two goal lead that this performance deserved.
