Match Report
In these times of the Internet anyone can usually get hold of what you have written, this should always be taken into account when writing about the opposition, especially when you meet them as much as we do. So it was with a spring in my step that I arrived at the Geoffrey Hughes Memorial Ground, as my team talk had been written for me, admittedly much, much longer than my usual team talk. I can only assume that Chester and Thomas were late as they wanted to finish reading all about our last game on the Convo website. I’m not saying it went on, but it took me 20 minutes to skim read it. Just long enough for me to find a description of a bubble header …
The pitch was in very good condition seeing as Chester described the weather in biblical terms, Noah is on standby to play right back next week, we are down to our last three. The Ramblers were quickly into their stride, befitting a team in form, and were soon ahead. Old bubble head sauntered up from the back and gently caressed one into the back of the net from another pinpoint Clay corner. To say I enjoyed it is a slight understatement. Have that Tolstoy.
Mornington added two before half time and all the dogs in South Liverpool covered their ears from the infernal high pitch squeal. The hosts briefly got back into the game in the second half when King was penalised for gently pushing the centre forward over. Debates about whether it was inside the box aside, it was quite a nudge. Nigel failed to stop the only shot on target by the hosts, the other a bullet header backpack from the Pressie into his midriff.
Killen managed to break the incredibly high line that Convo were employing and coolly lobbed the keeper from distance. The order of the last four goals escapes me a bit, but there were excellent finishes from Chester and Gendall, although he couldn’t miss after my assist … and a further two from Mornington, whose high pitch squeal was now causing fissures in the Mersey basin to open. Thankfully as humans get older their ability to hear high frequency sounds diminishes, so to most on the pitch he just appears to be mimicking Edvard Munch’s The Scream.
Another good performance, on to the next one against our local rivals. Can anyone find an old match report of theirs for me???
