Match Report
As the 2018 search for a win continued, sun the week before this game McGuckin sent out a rallying cry and Mornginton and Power went to St Joseph’s Blundellsands to seek divine intervention. None of this, though, could counter the fact that Bagpuss had lined us up against the youngest fittest meanest team in the Festival. The Crusaders used this game as a platform from which to win the Boot …
Anyway, the Vets actually did well in the first half. The first goal conceded was, if anything, against the run of play, the second came from a cruel deflection from Rushie’s new Nikes. The evenness of the game any that stage was perhaps best reflected by the fact that when Power saved a penalty shortly afterwards, it really felt like it mattered. Two nil down at half time was slightly harsh on the hosts, and an injection of younger blood for the second half seemed as if it might do the trick. Mornington scored early on to peg the deficit back to one, but slowly but surely the lead increased as the Vets opened up trying to get back into the game.
Still, this was fun.
