Match Report
Ahh Convocation, like a comfortable pair of slippers or stroking your dog, there is something soothing about seeing the orange kit of the opposition, all is right with the world, the game will be played in the right spirit, and we’ll run out comfortable winners. And this is the way things seemed to be for half an hour, without hitting the heights we raced into a two goal lead, more down to individual excellence from Gendall and Lewis than a good team performance, but the outcome was the same. Then things started to go a bit differently. The hosts clawed one back, using the space intelligently left by Russ nursing his right testicle back out of his stomach. Soon after a second was scored when Craig was allowed to steal a march on the static Ramblers back four. Something quite common in seasons gone by, but Craig looks like he has used lockdown to carry out a Man vs Food experiment rather than learn a new language or crochet, food has won by the way. Half time was all square, and the skipper highlighted to the troops how delighted Convo were with the 1st half showing by their excited bleats from the other side of the pitch. Like a gaggle of Morningtons having completed their hat trick.
With a flea in the ear a second half onslaught was guaranteed from the visitors, however it was the Tangerine terrors who took the lead after an attempted clearance out of the box by yours truly went about 3 yards. In a weird statistical anomaly, I haven’t scored any own goals this season, I have made up for that with howlers in the last two games though, standards must be kept up…. a tactical shuffle changing the shape to 4 4 2 was put in place and chances started to flow. Chester did a wonderful impression of a flowing haired Mornington, or Lewis last week, by blazing over the bar with the goal gaping ( Insert own jokes here, this goes on the web site). He did redeem himself with a spectacular header after a raking cross field cross from Thomas. Lewis added another two to complete an excellent Hat trick. Squeaky got one to annoy the hosts, and an unfortunate own goal after Chester threatened the corner flag with an effort completed the scoring. Not at our fluent best on the Geoffrey Hughes Memorial show pitch (not that showy to be honest) but we managed to win, again. On we go.
