Match Report
First mention needs to go to the Kendall twins…grandfather and grandson lining up on the same pitch for the Ramblers…perhaps a first? Great debut from Josh bagging a goal, while granddad showed all his experience to intercept or tackle most of what QEGS had to offer down the their left and a final 20 minutes (clean sheet) in goal.
It was originally down as the 1sts playing this fixture with the 4th’s playing QEGS 2nds. It was just as well the 1st didn’t play, as it turned out that only Harry ‘Slippers’ Howat was available…very grateful to the President’s son for helping us get to 11, but suggest the President upgrades his footwear at some point (those from the 1sts who stayed in bed…well, could have won this one with a bit more support…).
Without a recognised keeper, Frammo did a great job in the first half with Luke & Kendall Very Senior filling in for the 2nd. A goal at the near post and couple of lapses in marking meant that we went into the break 3-0 down. A tweak in shape to bring debutant Nathan Wright (great prospect for the Ramblers) back into the midfield alongside the quality of Ollie Sykes and persistent marking of Ted, meant QEGS were restricted to a couple of deflected goals in the 2nd half. Noah had a great 2nd half down in the right forward position with Tim strong alongside captain Jerry ‘McNulty’ Hopkins in the centre of defence and Frammo, Kendall Very Senior and Luke rotating the left and right side of defence and goal.
We got there, we played, we improved, we didn’t give the 7 year old referee too much stick and left with our heads held high…with even Slippers managing to keep on his feet all the way to the car.
