Match Report
I apologise the match report is late this week. The agony of defeat and injury combined to make a bitter pill to swallow and I didn’t have the stomach to sit down to write it. It’s a problem I know. My ex told me that she left me because I was obsessed about football. We had only been going out for three seasons.
Perhaps I was just a little salty about losing to West Kirby. I mean, they looked like they had been hit with mustard gas and covered with pepper spray. in short, they were well seasoned Vets.
I should have known things weren’t going well when my usual upbeat pre-match team talk ended with the depressing realisation that I was starting in nets. Despite a positive start for the Ramblers with some decent possession, things soon went from bad to worse after I was lobbed off my line with a ball towering a least 1.5 meters off the ground. 0-1
Still, we persevered and the reformed Prince of Positivity, Damo, got us back into the match with a sublime long range effort calmly stroked into the back of the net. 1-1.
Two new recruits, Chris and Daniels, came on before halftime and made a positive impact on the game. Things were looking good going into the second half but it soon became clear that “Jeff the Ref” has also received an equally inspirational halftime talk. Thereafter the Ref seemed to be doing a good impression of a mole, with partial blindness, a habit of putting his head in the ground every time a decision had to be made and with a heightened hearing for the ‘sound’ of who touched the ball last?? Meanwhile their defence also seemed to be playing a game of ‘whack-a-mole’ with Sudderick’s ankles. But you can’t keep a good man down and Sudderick managed to ride more than a few tasty tackles to set up Ben(?) for Ramblers’ second goal. 2-1.
We were riding high. 2-1 up, I had made it out of nets after Allison and Soffe agreed to don the gloves as well. But it’s the hope that kills you. I wrecked my knee again and we conceded 2 goals in the last ten minutes. The less said about it the better. Sh1t happens.
Onward and upward. Next up are the twos and a chance to get bragging rights for the season.
