Match Report
LRAFC 2nds came into their second game of the season against the mighty Manchester Grammar School. Unfortunately, the 2nds were forced to play on the pitch ‘over the road’ that is wider than it is long AKA, the choad pitch. Bob, started in goal with Ryan, Dan, Cookie and Kyle at the back. Strong middle 4 of Colin, Joe, Joe and Josh with Steve and Harry up front.
MGS started strong with some nasty runs and some good forward play. We struggled to get our feet on the ground for a while with some panic play. Unfortunately, we lost Ryan only 15 mins into the game who pulled up with a hamstring injury (get better soon mate!), on came Dom.
After we started to play some nice football, Kyle won the ball from their midfield. I think he’d been watching David Beckham videos on Youtube again; think David Beckham vs Wimbledon, what a strike, lobbing the keeper from the halfway line. A solid fist pump and a quick call to a couple of mates, loved ones etc. to tell them his amazing goal and Ramblers started to play some nice football again. Harry, down the left wing scored another screamer, Ramblers could rest easy until halftime.
Halfway finally arrived. Bob saw how the pitch was a choad and made a smart move to make us a 3 5 2 with Kyle and Joe moving into wing-backs. Bob made a few subs with Colin already making a huge impact with some great feet and determined middle play, the arrival of Connor only made us stronger with his subliminal passing.
We started well again, playing the ball from the back line with Dan, definitely having too good a touch to be a CB, and the team played some really nice tiki-taka. A threw ball from the middle down to Steve saw him charge down the line and slot one past the MGS keeper, who was pulling off some great saves.
Steve up front thought it only fair to give these school boys a chance and decided to go in goal. Bob, fresh as a daisy, made those preadolescent boys suffer. Ending up in the box, Bob set up to Joe who then slotted it in the bottom left corner. Ever since the formation changed the back three could sit back and Dan was telling Cookie all about his Sunday plans.
The introduction of Adam playing well off Dom, allowed Joe Ramsay determined as ever to slot another one past the keeper.
Another great performance from us. We started off a bit disjointed as there were some new faces but we easily came back into our stride. Let’s keep it up for QEGS.
